What is essential is invisible to the eye..

I intend to write this post in a deconstructive style (courtesy: Mr. Jacques Derrida).. So let's start with the basics of "What is essential".. How do you define essential.. what, then becomes essential and why is it essential... The first two parts are subjective and I leave it to each his own... Essentially, the cause of an essential (again subjective!!) entity/place/person/tangible/intangible object being essential in one's life is governed by various factors. My hypothesis says it is the externalities which define the why essential part. The most important things in life, as the cliche goes, are taken for granted and when the realization dawns upon us may be there is no time to make amends.

So how do we decide what is important in our lives? Great men say "anything which gives happiness and contentment is the true calling and hence, we should strive to achieve that", to put it succinctly we can use the term "Purpose Maximization" which I came across recently. Introspect and jot down the occassions when you were really happy.. what made you happy...Till the time you are shrouded by the cloud of confusion, the rays of happiness will not be able to penetrate the cranium which is fed well with all the things material in life..

I am not afraid to admit that I am one of those millions of disillusioned homo sapiens who fail to understand this uncomplicated concept because of the complicated world around them. We are trying to find our way around the maze of life. All of us regurtitate similar aspirations, likes and dislikes like we have been manufactured on an assembly line!!

It is again the harsh fact of life that it is not easy to chart out the way by being a non conformist. The societal norms are inflexible and turn a blind eye to anything which is not aligned to the structure formulated by them. It requires courage of Hercules to withstand the archetypical society.

The crux of the existence is to find the answers to these questions. It is critical to ask these questions to ourselves. Everything will fall into place and we can unearth the true happiness and contentment.

  1. This might be the inflexion point Neha....when you perhaps go beyond the visible....Every journey starts not with a step but a question...What is there in that distant land to quench the thirst i feel now? and perhaps have felt earlier...This could be a life long process
